If this transfer window hadn't gone for Liverpool as they'd hoped, then the injuries and lack of signings have made it worse. Some people called out for a new midfielder as Adam Lallana is out for 3 months. But news here comes today from the Echo who report that
Phillipe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge will miss the Watford game due to injuries. This is surely a big blow for the Reds with two of their key players missing the game.
Coutinho has been linked with a move to Barcelona, and while any transfer has yet to materialize, everyone now knows Barcelona's interest in him was concrete. It is just that they want to get him on the cheap which isn't possible in today's market. They also targeted Ousmane Dembele but Borussia Dortmund rejected it and said the player was worth more. So, Barcelona have failed everywhere. From signing Veratti, they lost Neymar and now are set to lose Both Dembele and Coutinho, which is pleasing news for the Reds fans.
Jurgen Klopp in his press conference told the press today about his likeness for Coutinho and his stubbornness to keep him at Liverpool. He further stated his desire to keep the players he had and said he only wants to add to this squad and not sell anyone.
In other news, Lazar Markovic's Fiorentina move collapsed with La Viola unwilling to meet the Reds' 16m offer for the winger. Mamadou Sakho is also on the fringes with no one yet to meet the Reds' asking price of 30m. Momo Sissoko said a few days back about his willingness to play Sakho and the impact he will make as a ball playing defender and also a leader.
So, in short Coutinho and Sturridge missing the Reds trip to Vicarage Road is certainly a blow, but with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane in the wings, the Reds should be able to do the job and win against a side whom they did the double last season.
